Under the supervision of my Vanderbilt University Medical Center mentor Dr. Allison B. McCoy and IBM mentor Dr. Hu T. Huang , I investigated the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 confirmed patients between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 using the Explorys Electronic Health Record database. I built the cohort and stratified it according to age group, race & ethnicity and presence of COVID-19 symptoms. I differentiated the severity of the COVID-19 symptoms by the need for hospitalization or ICU admission. I identified the characteristics that were similar in both the cohorts. Submitted a poster abstract to American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and presented the findings from the project to the IBM/VUMC team.
