Anwar “Joe” Malik, Of Counsel, is an attorney with over 10 years of experience working in government, non-profit, and private practice. His practice focuses on civil litigation in federal and state courts, as well as administrative proceedings before federal and state agencies. He helps individuals and businesses resolve disputes involving consumer protection, employee benefits, intellectual property, labor and employment, and personal injury.Joe received a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in business administration, and a law degree from the University of Kentucky. During law school, he was a member of the Kentucky Law Journal. The Journal selected his Note, Implications of the Small v. United States Decision, 94 Ky. L.J. 715 (2006), for publication.After graduating from law school, he served as a term clerk for a former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice. When his one-year clerkship ended, he studied for and passed the patent bar exam and became a registered patent attorney.He then entered the private practice of law. He manages all aspects of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and settlement negotiations in federal and state courts.Community service is important to Joe. He was a senior staff attorney with a now defunct nonprofit organization whose mission was to fight poverty in our state through advocacy, community education, and research. He has also volunteered for a legal aid organization where he assisted on bankruptcy, foreclosure, and consumer protection cases.He is licensed to practice in the state courts of California (inactive) and Kentucky, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
