About Angelica Sanabria
Working at the intersection of environmental justice, public health, and peace, I work through creative and restorative means to build thriving communities. My 5 years of experience, ranging from social work to education, researcher to facilitator, have provided me with a deep understanding of how to create sustainable yet iterative, lasting impacts. My most notable achievements in the positions I've held can be described easily as innovative and deliberate.During my time working with the Kinship program at the Y of San Diego's Youth and Family Services, I activated and subsequently was invited into the Racial Justice Task Force. As one of the two individuals who did not hold a managing position, I was elected to be the Task Force's Policy and Procedures Sub-Committee Chair. Through my leadership, my team and I led an audit on all procedural documents to ensure that our programming and internal practices were inclusive and anti-racist.As a Research Analyst for UCSD's Center for Community Health, I worked with the Childhood Obesity Initiative to continuously center community voices as we worked to understand and leverage 8,000 community stories. To do this, I conducted iterative qualitative analysis, as well as designed and co-facilitated two sense-making sessions with COI Community Council members. These are just two of the experiences that have shaped the way I work. I also see myself as an artist and as someone with an eye for design. With one of my undergraduate majors being Music Composition, I've written, mixed, and produced two LPs and two EPs throughout my music career since graduating. I understand the art of creating music as similar to that of my roles as a researcher, organizer, and systems thinker. There are many moving pieces that have to fit together in order for there to be harmony and collaboration. In my spare time, you can find me coaching a swim team, rock climbing, or at the back of an indie show.
