I am a passionate and proven design research professional who brings empathy, clarity, creativity, resourcefulness, and rigor to my service in helping teams and leadership understand and rally around what really matters to the people they’re trying to reach, and how to transition insights into critical business decisions that also make a real and positive difference in people’s daily work and lives.I am a senior provider experience designer for the global health service company Cigna, and its new subsidiary Evernorth. I joined Cigna in 2017 to help clinical, product, and strategy teams and leadership understand how their member-facing initiatives can also ensure contracted clinical and administrative providers are able to do their best work delivering care and services to patient-members.Before coming to Cigna I worked as an independent consultant, leading design research and innovation strategy projects for a range of clients including: Cigna, Capital One, Walgreens, SC Johnson, Allstate, France Telecom, and Herman Miller. Prior to my independent consultancy, I was a senior researcher for a design planning team at RTC, a global company that helps brands and retailers improve their in-store shopping experience. I led design research and strategic planning projects informing shopper journey innovation and store design. Clients included: Bose, Wilson, Kimberly Clark, Kraft, Sears, Kroger, and Dollar Store.Early in my career I was the global mobile media researcher for Motorola’s Customer and Marketing and Insights team. My master degree education from the Institute of Design laid the foundation for my rigorous approach to human-centered research and design thinking.Prior to my career as a design researcher, I was an exhibiting artist and arts educator, and was awarded grants to implement national and international projects for non-profit organizations including the National Endowment for the Arts, UNICEF, and the International Rescue Committee.

    I led design research and strategy projects for Fortune 500 companies including: Cigna, Capital One, Walgreens, SC Johnson, and Allstate. For each project, I worked closely with stakeholders to define and frame the problems to solve, align on scope and timelines including for agile workflows, and determine appropriate approaches to ensure my work provided actionable outcomes, and fostered the right level of collaboration. I delivered recommendations, insights, and strategic thinking in ways that were appropriate for all levels of stakeholders to understand.My research leveraged multi-modal methodologies including: ethnographic research, user testing, concept evaluation, co-creation, interviews, surveys, and in-store intercepts. I collaborated with UX design and product teams to define digital experience requirements for in-store settings including: retail pharmacy, luxury department stores, and credit application kiosks.I facilitated workshops to help stakeholders rally around the user experience, and transition insights and outcomes into actionable next steps. I stepped in as the interim lead for a new usability lab (while team lead was on extended leave). In this role, I mentored new staff, worked with product and design partners to define research roadmaps, led usability projects, and established foundational practices for the lab.I also designed and implemented an internal, company-wide project for a UX department to help them identify new opportunities to add value and differentiate within the organization. This work included 60 individual interviews with UX, product, and strategy employees and culminated with the co-facilitation of a workshop to translate insights and recommendations into the department’s new vision and strategic plan.

I designed and implemented research in collaboration with retail product and design teams to define opportunities and recommendations for shopper journey innovation and store redesign. Research methodologies included: In-store intercepts, surveys, focus groups, interviews, observation, cognitive walkthroughs, user testing, and concept testing. I facilitated executive-level alignment workshops with clients to ensure their buy-in and input throughout critical decision-points of our work. Clients included: Bose, Wilson, Kraft, Sears, Kimberly Clark, Dollar Store, Walgreens, Covergirl, and Kroger.I also led the research for RTC’s pro-bono redesign of a live-in care facility for adult individuals with intellectual disabilities. The purpose of the redesign was to improve and enhance the facility’s functionality, flexibility and aesthetics. I trained a research team of 7 designers in observation techniques so that they could bring their perspectives and expertise into fieldwork and analysis, and to ensure they could hit the ground running in owning the insights and translating them into feasible solutions, within tight budget constraints.
