Shallowford Animal Hospital is run by Dr. Margaret Hermann, and I was offered a full time position there after a trial period of just five days despite having no prior experience. I impressed Dr. Hermann with my work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn. My typical work day included speaking with clients about their animals, making appointments with the Cornerstone software, performing callbacks and filling prescriptions. Because of our small staff my job title changed daily, and I learned to adapt to what was needed of me with each new day. Routinely complimented on my pleasant disposition, I strived to represent the business with grace.

The "Playroom Attendant" position called for acting as a pack leader to a group ofdogs in a playroom each day. These dogs varied in breed, age and comfort level,and learning each name, temperament and tolerance level was a must. The packwould routinely number above thirty dogs, and safely disengaging the animalsfrom aggressive behavior of all kinds was a necessary skill.The "Customer Service" positioninvolved using the Kennel Connection software toenter dogs into a boarding scheduler, interacting cheerfully with clients and safelyremoving dogs from the pack to bring them to their owners.The "Lodging Assistant" position required managing the feeding of dogs in thekennel, regulating bathroom breaks and individual play times, cleaning the kennelsand being attentive to the needs of the disabled dogs in the building. Thisdeveloped strong time management skills.

This position consisted of marketing the photographer to potential clients in hopesof establishing contracts with them for work. Investigating sales leads, schedulingappointments, and having one-on-one meetings to negotiate price points were allaspects of the job. Representing the photographer at various functions developedan acute understanding of company image, and stressed the importance of firstimpressions.
