As Communications Manager I have responsibility for the design and implementation of the communications strategy of the office. I work to raise awareness of the rights and welfare of children and young people living in Ireland. I also highlight issues raised through complaints received by the office in relation to public bodies or organisations, and I work to draw attention to the views of the Ombudsman for Children's Office on upcoming legislation or policies. My role is a varied one that includes internal and external communications, public affairs, stakeholder engagement, generating and disseminating content for social media, writing speeches, media training, planning events and engaging with the media. Before taking on the role of Communications Manager with the Ombudsman for Children's Office, I worked as Fine Gael Press Officer. I interacted with the parliamentary party on a daily basis, coordinating their communications plans and briefing them for media. This exciting role gave me a real insight into how Government works, and the opportunity to be part of political communications in action.I also previously worked with AA Ireland as Head of the Roadwatch department. The AA was an excellent place to work, allowing me to move up the ranks from part time Broadcaster/Researcher to head of the team with responsibility for 10 staff members. I am an experienced broadcaster, having regularly contributed to national TV and radio news in my role with the AA.
