As Information Manager with the Centre for Cross Border Studies, I manage the Border People project (www.borderpeople.info) which is recognised as an important source of cross-border information. The project provides practical information for people crossing the border to live, work, study or retire. It provides a signposting service to a wide range of (single jurisdiction) information sources, the most popular of which are in the areas of social security, taxation, welfare benefits, healthcare, education, pensions and motoring.It also aims to embed the provision of cross-border information into the practices of mainstream information and advice networks, north and south. It does this by organising cross-border training and information sessions and by convening regular meetings of the Border People Cross-border Practitioners’ Group, which fosters significant collaboration and knowledge sharing between organisations in both jurisdictions. While Border People prioritises assisting citizens and information providers with the cross-border challenges they encounter, the project also analyses cross-border policy and practice, highlighting new and emerging issues to policy-makers.Behind the scenes is a committed Cross-border Advisory Group made up of representatives from: 1.
