About Aparna Gupta

I serve as a Program Director for the U.S. National Science Foundation's Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engines) program, authorized in the "CHIPS and Science Act of 2022." NSF Engines authorization is a recognition of the value of advancing transdisciplinary, collaborative, use-inspired and translational research and technology development in key technology focus areas. Each NSF Engine can receive up to $160 million to support the development of diverse regional coalitions of researchers, institutions, companies and civil society to conduct research and development that engages people in the process of creating solutions with economic and societal impacts. NSF Engines support to train and develop the local workforce and grow regional innovation ecosystems throughout the U.S. Prior to joining NSF, as a Professor of Quantitative Finance at RPI, I have been the co-founder and co-director of the NSF IUCRC Center for Research toward Advancing Financial Technologies (CRAFT), the first ever NSF funded center to address the research and technology challenges faced by the US financial sector. I have served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Lally School of Management at RPI. I was a visiting researcher at the US Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington DC for three years in the Commission’s Office of Data Science of the Division of Economic Risk and Analysis. My research interests span financial decision support, risk management, and applying mathematical modeling, machine learning and financial engineering techniques for risk management in technology-enabled network services, as well as risk management in the inter-connected financial institutions and financial markets. I have worked on several US NSF, US DoE funded research projects in financial innovations for risk management. My research has been published in top quantitative finance and operations research journals, and has been awarded various recognitions. I served as the co-chair of the 2024 IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence for Financial Engineering and Economics (CIFEr’24). I am the author of the book, Risk Management and Simulation, and serve on the GARP FRM Advisory Board and the editorial board of several quantitative finance and analytics journals.
