Fundamentally, my passion is for solving problems. Whatever the problem is, I love bringing structure to it and breaking it down until I can understand the fundamentals. I strongly believe that the process of defining and understanding the complexity of the problem is the most valuable and most often overlooked (and most fun!) bit. I also believe that it’s vital to be able to keep a view of the whole problem at the same time as getting into the nitty gritty.My technical background is in chemistry, and I have worked on a chemical innovation challenges on a variety of topics, including food and beverage, textile dyeing, fuels, lubricants, and consumer products.I’ve branched out beyond chemistry and will happily work in or lead teams to solve problems in any area! Currently, I work with a multidisciplinary team of T-shaped people who direct our passion towards solving innovation problems for clients.   Innovia is a consultancy specialising in breakthrough innovation for the world's biggest and best companies. I’m a senior consultant, and I lead the biggest projects Innovia does, to solve the hardest problems our clients face. Those problems range from solving specific scientific and technical problems, through taking advantage of broad opportunities with many uncertainties, to helping our clients set their innovation strategies.I have led projects for companies such as Shell, P&G, Kraft Heinz, BASF, GE Healthcare, and VF Corporation.Some of my personal highlights include:• Using fundamental science to help food companies remove artificial colours from their products.• Developing a new-to-world dye molecule to allow a much simpler, more sustainable dyeing process.• Leading a project to understand customer behaviour in luxury retail stores and propose how to redesign the stores to improve customer experience.• Creating new additives to improve the efficiency of petrol and diesel fuels.• Helping Smartwool understand the physiology of heating, cooling, and sweating in order to design better socks and apparel. (I’m one of the models in the thermographic images in the case study!)• Creating new thickeners for lubricating greases for Shell.
