The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship of anger expression and incident diabetes in African Americans and to determine whether gender moderates this effect.

The purpose of this study was to perform a cross sectional analysis between baseline levels of anger and hostility and levels of insulin resistance or inflammation as measured by HOMA-IR and hsCRP respectively. Also determined whether high levels of these psychosocial factors at baseline relate to future risk of type 2 diabetes. Descriptive and regression analyses, adjusting for potential confounding baseline variables, was performed. Since many of the psychosocial response alterations are thought to be gender specific, stratified analyses were also performed to examine the potential effect modification by gender. Exploratory analyses conducted to test the potential interaction between psychosocial factors.
