KPMG’s Small Business Accounting division in the UK was recently established to bridge the gap between the Big 4 and small businesses. Using the latest technology to streamline processes and provide deeper insights, it was a great opportunity to work directly with some of the UK’s most exciting start-ups and small business owners. It was also interesting to build up global experience within a large corporate environment, and to improve my management skills running a team in India remotely and separately to oversee UK staff directly.

Business advisory, tax & accountancy firm, with service to our loyal clients at the heart of every action taken.Originally started on a contracting basis, where I worked remotely from Thailand and Argentina, and was proud to build strong client relationships virtually. After relocating to Brisbane, this transitioned into a partnership with respected industry leader Marcus McLellan, and we built the firm quickly through referrals and networking.It was an invaluable experience to run my own business, and see the startup world from the other side of the fence. It also meant taking ownership for various other functions, including business development, marketing (design and production of website, stationery) and technology (ran a paperless, virtual office).It was also incredibly rewarding to work closely with some amazing entrepreneurs and family businesses (who remain close friends), and help deconstruct issues like structuring, GST, tax planning, business purchases, service fees, and other financial matters. We took an entrepreneurial approach ourselves to meeting clients' needs, an example of this included cold calling on behalf of a client. This landed a large ongoing contract with multinational Sumitomo Corporation, and was a great chance to expand my boundaries beyond the typical day of a normal accountant.
