As an intern for the Education Workgroup, I convene listening sessions to collect feedback from the environmental literacy community on the Environmental Literacy Goal of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement. I plan and facilitate sessions at the state and regional level, as well as with focus organizations working locally to include underrepresented voices in environmental literacy.The data gathered through the listening sessions and regionally-distributed survey will be compiled into a report to inform the environmental literacy action plans of the Mid-Atlantic states and the next steps of the Education Workgroup

As an Event Assistant, I help community and university organizations with planning and navigating Stamp Student Union building services. I act as the primary liaison to accommodate community organizations during events and assist with changes. I utilize our internal calendar and Event Management System to assign dates and locations and monitor 5-10 events per shift.

Oasis Farm & Fishery (OFF), part of the outreach branch of the Bible Center Church Inc., is an urban farm addressing food insecurity in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. They work to grow healthy culturally significant food, reduce financial and social barriers to food, and provide community education on nutrition, cooking, and the environment.As part of the Pitt Undergraduate Public Health Scholars Program, I interned with Oasis Farm & Fishery working on OFF community outreach, public health outreach in the broader Homewood neighborhood, and preparation and faciliation of OFF production and events.

I conduct exploratory research with Dr. Madeline Brown in the UMD Department of Anthropology on human individual and cultural connections with nature. For the TREKS study, I research existing scientific literature on nature trail stewardship, use, and cultural significance and analyze survey text responses on individual trail use and significance using Excel and R. We are also conducting exploratory research on the representation and role of nature in virtual spaces such as video games and media.

I co-authored two manuscripts for submission to environmental justice journals and reconfigured manuscripts into simpler, visually appealing documents for public accessibility. This summer, I also booked advertisements, materials, and panel speakers for the 8th UMD Symposium on Environmental Justice and Health Disparities hosted by CEEJH, and guided guests and speakers during the symposium.
