As part of my project I also made a documentary "Masters of the Yi Mouth Harp". The Yi people play the mouth harp (also known as Jew's harp) to express internal feelings and emotions, engage in courtship affairs, mimic the melodies of folk songs, and depict actual or fictitious past events as a form of storytelling. The Bonner scholarship provided me with the leadership tools and experience needed to provide help and support for diverse groups of people around the world. Over the course of my Bonner Scholarship, I volunteered in a prison literacy program, Latino IMPACT middle school tutoring program, worked in disaster relief programs in Virginia, North Carolina, and LA, worked as a village painter in a Lutheran retreat center called Holden Village in WA, volunteered at a SOS Children's school in Rourkela India, and taught English at the Eastern Tibetan Training Institute (ETTI) in Shangri-la, China.
