About Albert Hoitingh
I live in The Hague (NL) with my partner and two sons, and have over 30 years of IT experience. Primarily, I've worked as a Consultant, Solution Architect, or Business Consultant. Since Microsoft launched SharePoint Server 2001, I’ve specialized in Microsoft Information Worker solutions, but started with IBM Lotus Notes/Domino in the late '90s. Transitioning to Microsoft platforms was a natural step, and I've focused on on-premises and cloud collaboration solutions for over twenty years. I've contributed to books like “Collaboration in the Cloud” and “TeamPark”, and always consider compliance, security, identity, and device management as integral parts of any solution. My expertise is strongest in Microsoft 365 and especially in Microsoft Purview, but also includes extending these solutions to non-Microsoft environments. I've advised a hospital on Azure IaaS compliance and have significant technical and functional experience across various projects. In my career, ensuring regulatory compliance and improving cloud security for large organizations have been key achievements. I have developed security templates and blueprints for information protection, addressing the needs of multiple governments and organizations.Promoting Governance, Compliance, and Risk (GCR) within the Microsoft 365 cloud has been a priority, often through organizing events and creating content that bridges IT and business needs. I am planning to publish a book on eDiscovery in the Microsoft cloud, aiming to clarify this complex platform. Besides Microsoft 365, I've addressed multi-cloud guidelines involving Azure and AWS, showcasing a broader security document for a regional government.I'm honored to be a Microsoft MVP (Microsoft 365 and Security), having shared my insights at numerous international conferences. My blog (alberthoitingh.com) serves as a platform for my thoughts on Microsoft cloud technology and GCR.
Listed skills include Sharepoint, Enterprise Architecture, Architecture, Solution Architecture, and 25 others.

Sharepoint Business Consultant
ProRail is an organization of around 5.100 employees. The organization uses many SharePoint environments (2007, 2010) but some lack of governance and the multitude of customizations impede a swift migration to SharePoint 2013 or SharePoint Online. As part of the ProRail ECM program, it was decided in 2014 to create a brand-new SharePoint environment based on SharePoint Online. This environment was to be user friendly, but also needed to adhere to ProRail’s requirements on document- and record management.Within the program I have had multiple roles. The foremost is the business consultant role. Working with ProRail, I have been able to design a new SharePoint Online platform for document-, records management, search and collaboration. Also, the role involved management, governance and user adoption.User adoption is key for a new platform like SharePoint Online. Early on in the project the ProRail employees were invited to presentations, demonstration, workshops and “do it yourself” environments.Part of the project has been the creation of a migration methodology. In short, this methodology describes how the new ProRail SharePoint environment will meet the requirements of the different business units, but also adheres to the new standard. As part of the business consultant role, I was asked to head a hybrid management team. This management team was to provide support for the new environment and manage this environment. The term “hybrid” was meant to denote the fact that the environment as such was not yet managed by the IT department. But employees of this IT department were part of the hybrid team.
Solutions Architect
At this moment I am working as the ECM program solutions architect. Although this title may imply otherwise, this is a more innovation and functionality driven role. As such, I participate in ProRail projects involving the new SharePoint Online environment and take responsibility for the SharePoint Online roadmap for ProRail.

As such I’m asked to advice on functional and governance challenges of the program. I am also the liaison between the IT and business organization. Lifecycle Manager Collaboration
The responsibility of the lifecycle manager is the e-collaboration service within ING. I was author of multiple midterm plans (MTP’s), the vision-document ING’s new way of work (together with Microsoft) and the ING e-collaboration service roadmap 2006-2008.
