Marcelo’s work happens in two strands: creative art works working collaboratively with communities, and sector support work developing research and organisational development to help improve cultural democracy and participation. He was Lead Artist and report author for Social Artists For Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (SAFEDI) AHRC fellowship with Manchester Metropolitan University producing research around arts access and policy.Project partners have included: Museum of London, Horniman Museum and Gardens, Whitechapel Gallery, Freedom Festival, IN SITU European Outdoor Arts network, Tate London, Artangel and People United.He co-led a team of 35 Participation Producers, Delivery, and Facilitators across 5 museums in 3 locations in England for IWM.

The studio has been commissioned by local health trusts, councils and art charities, including notable bodies of work such as From Birth Till Death: Scrolled Life Stories (2020-2021), a social drawing project created by members of St. Christopher’s Hospice, Arts Network, Three Cs, and an Asylum Seekers Hostel. Exhibited at the Horiman Museum and shortlisted for the Museum + Heritage Award 2021. Roles include running an organisation and the social practice studio; business planning, finances, HR, line management for up to twelve staff members of the creative team, supporting and advising trustees and fostering funding relationships (including correspondence with ACE). -

This has included diversifying income streams, having secured funding from new sources such as Artfund, Arts Council England and the Arts & Humanities Research Council as well as maintaining strategic relationships with key stakeholders. Axisweb were granted £10,000 from Artfund for the Social Art Library and £79,000 from Arts Council Project Grant for Social ARTery; Two new platforms launched with the aim to gather and build resources around hybrid/blended participatory art. R.M. Sánchez-Camus was also responsible for the restructuring and redeveloping of Job Designs, allowing all employees to become part of a holistic working team. -
Co-FounderSocial Art Network & Social Art Summit Apr 2017 - Nov 2022United KingdomEnsuring the organisation’s future resilience has been key to this role, having successfully received £15,000 from Arts Council for the Social Art Summit and £10,000 from Artfund for Social Art London’s online meetups, that supported creative practitioners working with communities during lockdown. Over 2,000 people per year have participated in the delivery programme, many of which have been young NEETS, adults with mental health conditions and adults and carers living with dementia.

Creative Neighbourhoods Programme LeadSt. Christophers Hospice Sep 2008 - Dec 2020London, United KingdomR.M. Sánchez-Camus managed the workshops, events and public programme, notably leading the School’s Project with four Primary Schools and the Brit School, that created intergenerational work between young people and patients around end of life care. Through these initiatives, relationships with local and national stakeholders were developed and an ongoing partnership with Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design was established, providing two students to work on placement on a yearly basis. The Arts Team was also able to secure 15K from Lewisham Council and 15K from Arts Council England Project Grant. This has allowed the presence of the arts to be increased across hospice services, with two medical sites in Sydenham and Orpington receiving valuable funds. -
