Acute Limb Ischemia (ALI) is a common clinical problem that occurs when blood flow to an extremity is interrupted. When ALI occurs, rapid transfer to a tertiary care facility and restoration of blood flow to the extremity by a vascular surgeon is the only treatment. The goal of this Seattle based sartup is to create a prototype device – the LC-tourniquet – that cools an injured limb to 5-10 degrees C and prevents ischemic damage during transport to a surgeon. A portable cooling system is used over the sleeve which goes on the affected limb. Responsibilities :- Ideation and Design of the medical device- Fabrication and assembly of the prototype- Numerical analysis (COMSOL 5.1) and actual testing - Ensuring FDA complianceI am collaborating with Product Creation Studio, which is a product development and design firm in Seattle and will be using their design expertise and resources to successfully build the prototype.

The Boechler Research Group is led by Prof. Nicholas Boechler in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. Study of wave propagation in complex materials and the design of materials with extraordinary properties are some of the key interests of this group. I am currently involved in assisting a PhD student under Prof. Boechler studying transmission of waves through granular materials. I am dealing with carrying out FEA simulations in Comsol and Ansys to simulate the contact behaviour between a sphere and a substrate. Burning of fossil fuel being on the rise, today's engineers have to possess a different kind of approach when dealing with problems and designing equipments. One, which would not only get the job done but would be also prove to be innocuous to the environment. Pacific Sky Power is a Seattle based startup which aims at reducing the fuel consumption of cargo ships by employing small but efficiently designed Cataraman sail boats capable of utilising the winds potential.I was part of a voluntary internship which dealt with assisting the startup in design of different components of the boats like mast and sail. We as a team, designed the components in Solidworks and carried out some CFD and FEA analysis on the same to test their validity.

A one and a half month internship in the field of "Genset Cooling Systems" in the PGBU (Power Generation Business Unit) Department. I familiarized myself with the different components of a radiator cooling system as well as explored the future technologies in the field.Also took part in suggesting improvements in the heat exchanger design like use of vortex generators a capable of increasing the heat transfer coefficient and improving overall efficiency of the system.
