    -Designed and built (using my own machining skills on manual machining centers) an experimental apparatus that was comprised of an "off-the-shelf" thermal imaging camera that I converted into a thermal microscope (field of view less than a square mm) so that the apparatus could capture thermal images of dynamic chip formation while orthogonally cutting AISI 1045 and AISI 4140 steels on a CNC vertical milling center -Completed extensive calibration procedures to determine temperature information, since the acquired videos consisted of camera signal and not temperatures-Compared the converted temperature profiles to temperature profiles predicted by a finite element software package in order to validate its fidelity -Gave regular presentations of my progress to the industrial affiliates that were funding the project including Caterpillar, Boeing, Corning, and Intel, so it was imperative that I be as efficient as possible-Assisted other projects that needed thermal measurements
