About April Guffey
As an adoptee, former foster youth, and foster sister, I am no stranger to trauma or the brokenness that envelops the foster care and adoptive systems. There is a big missing piece in the adoption and foster care puzzle: someone who has been through it, and who has an insider’s perspective to answer the hard questions. As an adoption coach, I come alongside anyone touched by the foster care or adoptive systems and support them in their challenges, and help answer their questions from my perspective, while also using my own research and current college classwork. As a writer, I share the perspectives not often given the microphone. If we are to best help and care for those in foster care and who have been adopted, who better to help us know how to do that best than those who have walked those paths? I write informational yet engaging pieces on all topics under the umbrellas of foster care and adoption.As a speaker, I educate, motivate, and inspire my audience, whether that's to donate to your organization in order to help you better care for foster youth or adoptees, or to encourage and uplift the caretakers of foster and adopted youth. I also use my life story to inspire all that mercy and healing are always possible.As an advocate of foster and adopted youth, I fight for the best care possible for these kiddos. We must have a trauma- informed lens, and we must understand the unique challenges foster and adopted youth face, in order to help them be successful. I can't wait to work with you and your organization to facilitate mercy and healing in all foster and adopted youth!
