Profile bio

About April Messenger

As a Project Management Consultant, I have over a decade of experience in supporting and advancing effective and equitable parent and family engagement strategies and practices across the country. I use a two-generational approach with families to dismantle systemic barriers and bring policy solutions to the challenges they face. I am passionate about promoting lived experience as expertise in policy development, creation, and implementation, following the principle of "nothing about us, without us".I also leverage my skills and knowledge leading parent and family engagement outreach and community organizing centering families most impacted by public policies and procedures. Drawing from my own lived experience navigating systems to support my family and the upward mobility I needed to escape poverty, I have worked hard to make sure families like mine are at the tables where decisions are made about policies that impact them. I use a trauma-informed approach with families, which is the key to elevating voices in every policy sphere from housing, childcare, the education system, the environment, and more. Community is key to successful change.

Listed skills include Community Outreach, Project Management, Microsoft Office, Public Policy, and 10 others.
