About April Moon
I am excited to be ROHS's new Engineering and Robotics teacher as well as the district's K-12 PLTW Program Coordinator. After I left the classroom over six years ago, I missed working with students directly, so I recently gave up my position as a Director at Project Lead The Way (PLTW) to come back to teaching. To be able to help students discover the wonderment of engineering / mathematics and the wonderment within themselves is a privilege. As a Director at PLTW, I worked with school districts across Texas, industry partners, and Higher Ed partners to build, expand, and sustain PreK-12 STEM programs and opportunities in Engineering, Biomedical Science, and Computer Science.Prior to joining PLTW, I served as the STEM Coordinator for Waxahachie ISD where I implemented and expanded STEM programs, planned and facilitated STEM outreach events, and provided professional development opportunities to teachers. Before becoming a coordinator, I taught multiple Engineering courses and was a PLTW Master Teacher for Civil Engineering & Architecture. I started working in the field of education back in 2006 when I was recruited to serve on a planning team that developed the design and implementation strategies for Waxahachie Global High's T-STEM Academy and Early College High School. Prior to that, I was a senior consultant for Accenture (previously Andersen Consulting) in program management and process development - working with internal teams and customers across the globe.I earned my B.S. in Civil Engineering and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction (with a focus on Mathematics Education) from Texas A&M University. In 2014, I received one of the six National Excellence in Teaching Awards from PLTW, and in 2016, I was named the Robert and Patricia Kern National PLTW Teacher of the Year. I have three kids that just graduated college. I enjoy traveling, glamping, resale shopping, horseback riding, and learning!
