About April Lewis

Life scientist with Ph.D. + 9 years of experience spanning the use of molecular tools to study microbial systems to expressing AAV based gene therapy vectors in a cGMP facility. With the rise of gene therapy and other biologics, I am advantageously positioned to leverage my unique skill sets to improve current biotechnology. I have both molecular biology academic and cGMP/GLP industrial experience. I am also skilled at culturing a range of organisms including pathogenic bacteria, thermophilic archaea, and eukaryotic cell lines. My current position as the sole trained microbiologist in a chemical engineering lab and my previous industry experience has prepared me to excel in a multidisciplinary team. I am currently seeking an opportunity that challenges me to be innovative for the benefit of human health.Highlights:• Applied cloning techniques to make mutants in model bacteria and non-model archaeal organisms.• Used molecular cloning, qPCR, protein expression, and enzymatic assays to describe Toxin-Antitoxin regulation of archaeal motility.• Earned a first authorship by leading a team of 14-authors across multiple countries to write a massive FEMS Microbiology review article on the Sulfolobales order affectionately dubbed the “SulfoloBible”.• Organized personnel and cGMP clean room suite activities to produce AAV vectors for clinical trials.• Worked at a CDMO with clients to generate batch records and standard operating procedures.• Trained in both BSL2 mouse/chicken handling and cGMP/GLP industrial regulations.
