My name is April Halcomb. Personality exists behind names, and there are many statements and adjectives I can use to describe myself. I am a nerd. I am laid-back. I am an artist. I am a student. I am a gamer. I am patient and kind. I am introverted but passionate. I am a dreamer. I dream of becoming a mathematics teacher. I have been working diligently towards this dream for the past four years.I went from graduating as Valedictorian at my high school in Michigan to the study art and animation at the University of Advancing Technology. Even amidst my love of art, I struggled to find the passion to make it a career path. So, I transferred to a online program with Grand Canyon University to explore my back up plan: Mathematics education. I fell head over heels for the education field and new instantly I was choosing the right career path. Being in an online program has allowed me the flexibility to move around, and I am finally grounded in Wichita, Kansas, where I have completed my student teaching internship. It has been the greatest learning experience I have ever had. It has given me a deep understanding of how classrooms realistically work and how to appropriately use classroom management. My student teaching has allowed me to teach an Intensified Algebra class, a non-freshmen Algebra 1 class, and an Algebra 1 class with an extra remedial class period, while observing many, many other types of classes.I have many areas to grow as a teacher, but my strengths are instantly recognizable. I have a deep understanding of mathematics. My patience and care for students allows me to make content comprehensible by all students. I have a strong empathy for students, which makes me flexible, accessible, and a good listener. I have a strong desire to learn and better myself, which is a quality needed by all students.There's a lot to me that doesn't fit in this summary, but remember this: There's more to me than meets the eye.

(This includes professionalism, such as not using slang terms and using good word choice.)
