I have been privileged to work to my full scope of practice with continued support and education to ensure my nursing skills remain at a high standard while working independently in the community. Everyday I am humbled by the resilience of the human race.

I am embracing the opportunity to work in a closely knit, nursing home environment. I provide all aspects of personal care from assistance with daily living activities to providing comfort and companionship. I am privileged to work in an inter-professional environment on the cusp of change. Mattawa is a beautifully scenic town with strong community ties and a rich history which is reflected in the life stories of the individuals residing at Algonquin Nursing Home.

I have the privilege of providing all aspects of personal care in the comfort of the client's home. Client population includes adults of all ages with varying degrees of independence and cognitive ability. Care includes but is not limited to assistance with medication/insulin administration, oxygen therapy, catheter care and bag maintenance, ostomy care, mobility assistance, meal prep and light housekeeping.

I had the pleasure of providing support to individuals with various developmental and physical disabilities, many with multiple diagnosis. Support included modifying resources to promote independence, preserving autonomy through client driven plans of care and support, and co-ordinating resources to achieve client desired outcomes.Skills included development of effective non verbal communication, behaviour management, redirection, crisis prevention and support. Practical skills included proper lifting and transferring techniques, various lift equipment, oxygen therapy, g-tube feeding/maintenance, medication administration and seizure management.

This job involved heating, cooling and tempering different metals and metal combinations to achieve various degrees of hardness. Screws, nails and lock latches are just a few of the items processed. Skills included meticulous time management, attention to detail and a basic metallurgic knowledge. Practical skills included driving a forklift, using various shop equipment such as grinders, cutters and sand wheels, and heavy lifting.The best part of this job was the amazing people that I worked with that helped develop my confidence and work ethic.
