Community Relations Intern
I managed the legal education initiative to expand Legal Aid's services to all 100 counties of North Carolina. We worked to partner with businesses in the community to offer a free Do-It-Yourself clinic via a video conferencing software where a volunteer attorney can inform and instruct participants in all parts of the state. I researched potential community sites, built databases for each county, contacted the directors and pitched the idea. I also managed the coordination and assisted in planning the program's sustainability. My duties also included client intake screenings to determine if clients are eligible for Legal Aid services.
Legislative Intern
Working in both Representative Faircloth's and Blackwell's office, I analyzed policy on "hit and run" statutes, compared driver's education programs, and the pros and cons of smaller classroom sizes. In addition, I wrote a compilation of weekly newsletters, newspaper articles, social media posts, and constituent letters.
Resident Advisor
Worked to create and maintain a healthy residential community by designing and leading programs to promote diversity, involvement, higher education, and leadership. I facilitated mediation when necessary, and served as an educator, administrator, mentor, and liaison between students and administrators.
Speech Therapy Assistant
At the Fundabiem rehabilitation clinic, I shadowed a speech therapist and worked hands-on with children with disabilities to improve their language and verbal skills in Spanish. I learned how to perform facial muscle exercises, prepared activities for clients,as well as instructed and assisted clients in speech therapy.
Administrative Assistant
During this semester long internship, I was given the opportunity to introduce clients to the Supervised Visitation program and report arrivals to my SV director. I also observed and evaluated the Domestic Offenders Sentenced to Education (DOSE) group therapy. In addition, I performed general administrative duties to support the professional staff.
