Responsible for the 24/7 support of the Barclays Group Internet Access, Mail Gateway and External DNS infrastructure providing secure internet and external email access to the bank's 120,000+ employees.Also responsible for the firewall environment within the Business Internet Banking infrastructure.Achievements:Provided a complete tactical solution to allow the safe communication of applications, web and mail traffic between an acquired Russian Bank and Barclays Group. This solution has since become strategic.Designed and implemented a new Internet Mail and Web gateway infrastructure capable of supporting 80k users on time, on budget and with minimal impact to the users. Working with both internal teams and Value Added Resellers.Designed an Active DR Internet gateway solution incorporating Web, Mail, PGP and DNS.Worked with Barclays Executive to deliver a DLM solution and install network taps within very short timescales with minimal visibility and with no impact.Assisted the Attack Monitoring and Cyber Forensics teams to help prevent malware and malicious code from entering or spreading within the Barclays network.Created scripts to monitor services, audit servers and provide management with trend information.Subject matter expert for IMG and DNS providing advice and guidance for Business Units, Senior Exec, directors and CIO.

Supporting the Barclays Internet Access, Mail Gateway and Internet/Extranet Firewall infrastructure.Achievements:Designed and implemented a replacement for Barclays first external DNS environment. Provided a robust and resilient internet facing DNS service combining bespoke DNS with an appliance solution.Supported and developed the group firewall infrastructure which at it's peak comprised over 180 separate FreeBSD or Sunscreen firewalls.Oversaw the migration of the firewall estate from the BSD/Sunscreen based systems to an Enterprise Firewall solution provided by BT.Supported the Barclays Network management systems through the Y2K project. Ensuring that no Barclays systems were put at risk.Implemented the first scalable IMG gateway. Moving from single internet access proxies on campus sites to a central IMG DMZ. Worked with the Unix teams to provide the service using standard Solaris system builds.

Responsible for the support and development of the Netview systems monitoring the Banks Multi Protocol Router Network (MPRN). Extended the base configuration of most systems was extended by a number of Unix Shell Scripts providing a high level of customisation and/or automation.

Supporting Novell and UNIX servers combined with first and second line support for all SLOC's LAN/WAN systems.Directly responsible for the operation of the Netware servers, recommending and implementing changes to any server based systems. Other projects included the introduction of a SNMP based network management system, the company wide release of Lotus Notes 4.5 and the evaluation of Windows 95.

Developing COBOL applications for the Computers at Point of Sale project.Worked on the move from a flat file to a relational database and the introduction of Rapid Application Development tools and methods. Developed a system to automate the assembly and compilation of code.

Designing and writing Programmes for Telxon PTC hand held computers, including links to PC via modem/radio. Developing Clipper MIS systems and the implementation of high-speed communications between remote sites.
