Experienced freelance radio journalist and award-winning educator with a passion for impactful storytelling and a proven track record of preparing students for success in the field of broadcast and digital journalism. With decades of experience in the broadcasting industry, I have consistently produced compelling stories for NPR, WAER-FM, and WRVO-FM. I received the Edward R. Murrow Regional Award for Best Use of Sound in 2013 as well as multiple awards from the Syracuse Press Club and New York State AP Broadcasters.In addition to my accomplished career in journalism, I've played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of broadcast professionals through my role as a lecturer and adjunct instructor at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Over the past 30 years, I have developed and taught a range of broadcast journalism courses that provide students with practical skills and insights that are essential for success in the industry.My passion for education is underscored by my receipt of a pair of teaching awards. In 2024, I received the first-ever Newhouse School Teaching Excellence Award for Adjunct Teaching. I am also the recipient of Syracuse University's University College Excellence in Teaching Award, awarded in May 2011, recognizing my dedication to fostering a rich and impactful learning environment for aspiring broadcast and information professionals.My dedication to education extends to leadership positions, including my role as facilities coordinator for Syracuse University's Broadcast and Digital Journalism department, where I oversee the administration of the department's performance laboratories and mentor teaching assistants. Additionally, my commitment to education extends to the School of Information Studies, where I've served as an adjunct instructor for more than two decades, teaching multiple courses in Information Technology. My influence in education goes beyond traditional coursework, as I've directed the Information Studies Summer Institute and the Syracuse University SummerStart program, which provides students with educational experiences outside of the regular academic calendar.Throughout my tenure, I've been deeply involved as a faculty advisor for a number of student-run organizations, such as the WJPZ/Z89 student radio station and the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (Syracuse University Chapter), offering guidance and oversight.
