I had the pleasure of working as a float nurse on the Nursing Resource Team at LHSC for over the last year and a half. I grew as a novice nurse and was able to adapt and and develop critical thinking skills when working with multiple patient populations on medical and surgical floors including acute medicine, palliative, general surgical, orthopedics/trauma, gynaecology, cardiology/vascular, and the cardiac care unit, My last couple of months was spent on the inpatient adult mental health units where I was cross trained and learned how to assess and provide psychiatric nursing interventions. My time on mental health was made extra special with the opportunity to be a preceptor to a student nurse during their integrated practicum as we both navigated the various forms of nursing care and how to provide safe practice.

Working at the John Gordan Home was a wonderful and unique experience in providing support for people who are living with HIV/AIDS and/or HCV, and to build towards positive health and wellness outcomes. Following the mission as a Home with a Heart, the staff takes part in creating meaningful therapeutic relationships and helping residents establish routines and as well work towards independence.

I had the opportunity to complete my community nursing professional practice placement at the Windermere on the Mount Retirement Home. Working closely with the Director of Care and Director of Recreation was able to engage in activities to promote and improve on the physical, mental and social health of the residents. At the end of my placement, I was able to successfully implement a fall prevention project that was an education based intervention, empowering residents to take safety into their own hands.

Some of responsibilities include helping out the receptionists at the clinic and as well answering student's questions about what student health services offers, and the steps they need to take in order to get an appointment/see a counselor.

Working as a garden assistant was the perfect summer job. I got the opportunity to work at the different community gardens in London, while also running a summer children's garden programming. Part of my job included creating educational activities regarding the importance of biodiversity, and as well partnering with different groups like TD's Books & Breakfast to run activities for children from low socioeconomic families.

Working for the OPS as a summer student was an eye opening experience as I was able to have a better understanding of the different services provided by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. During my 3 months working for the Ontario Disability Support Program I was able to use my organization and management skills to complete an archival project and as well as administrative tasks.
