· Research focus: The potential of the endocannabinoid system to control cell fate with the goal of developing therapeutic interventions for aggressive cancers utilizing cell culture and mouse models in order to determine if manipulation of the cannabinergic system can alter the progression of breast cancer metastases. Developing novel CBD analogs for the treatment of aggressive breast cancers and discovering the detailed mechanisms through which cannabinoid compounds regulate Id-1 expression. Arash Pakdel

· Research focus: Developing a novel approach for colon cancer screening using the expression of 16 genes in the macroscopically normal colonic mucosa of individuals with a first-degree relative with sporadic colon cancer and 16 normal controls measured by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR. This observation raises the possibility of screening for individuals who are at an increased risk of developing colon cancer by analysis of gene expression in rectosigmoid biopsy samples.
