Arash Shokouh is a Professional Speaker on Cyber Security and HIPAA Compliance at Ophtek LLC. I have known him since the summer of 2004; we first worked together at the Society for Computer Engineering (SCE) at San Jose State University (SJSU). At that time, he had just finished his tenure as the Student Body President of SJSU and was beginning the core junior/senior level Computer Engineering courses. In the SCE, Arash's student body governing experience proved invaluable in bringing order and structure to our meetings. He introduced and enforced Robert's Rules of Order and agenda planning, something that was outside his role as Career Relations Officer at the time. Arash was a positive influence, always constructive in discussions and willing to take on responsibility to help out when and where he could. As a student, Arash became emboldened in his quest for higher learning as he gained more and more exposure to the materials in the junior/senior level courses (and would later go on to get his Masters in Computer Engineering). He had an A in most, if not all, of his computer engineering courses. Arash would not only learn the material, but he would be willing to help others learn as well, even going so far as tutoring his favorite introductory course, Digital Design I. Arash is a hard worker. He is someone who puts forth the effort to get a task done and is constantly seeking to grow both professionally and as an individual. There is an entrepreneurial spirit in him, as evidenced by his diverse background, starting with his PC Care business that he started in high school. We worked together in the 2005 Microsoft Embedded Challenge, where we were one of twenty-five international teams chosen to present and compete at Microsoft's HQ in Redmond, Washington. When he was working at Emergency Fall, he laid out the groundwork for the business model and created presentations to give to angel investors. He had great enthusiasm for the iPhone platform in its debut and he consequently founded Jahkou with my brother. During development of his iPhone apps, he sought constructive feedback and incorporated them along with any fixes for reported bugs as soon as he could. If there's one thing Arash cannot do, it is sit idle. Because he is a hard worker, because he is constantly seeking to grow, and because of his entrepreneurial spirit, Arash is a productive individual, following through on his goals and tasks, to make a difference and to have a positive effect on the world. This includes how he spends his free time volunteering or trying to be involved in any community outreach opportunities his employer has available.
