ZIGTAL REPORTINGIn this project, I was tasked to develop the front-end of a new website for the company. This website, Zigtal Reporting, is an online dashboard that is available to customer organizations to see various statistics about their employees. For example, the organization can view what type of skills their employees are learning, what their engagement is with the platform over time, etc. My internship began with my mentor providing me with some mockups of the website. Initially, I was asked to go through these mockups and understand them. I spent a few days observing all the components of the website and trying to see the types of data that they were collecting and ultimately displaying.I soon began the project by learning about front-end web development. I completed a certified, 16-hour Udemy course which taught me the basics of front-end development. It introduced me to Visual Studio Code, a code editor with many useful features to make coding easier. HTML and CSS were the 2 major programming languages I used for the entire project. I was also introduced to a bit of javascript for the functioning of different components of the website and displaying graphs. Upon completing this course, I immediately began working on recreating the mockups as an actual website. I spent the first few weeks creating the first draft of the project. This was a very simple draft with only the basic layout including simple components to indicate the placement of different information on the page. Once my first draft was approved, I moved on to adding more detailed information and focused on the functionality and overall user experience of the website. This was a particularly challenging part of the project for me since my experience with javascript is limited. This was when my mentor introduced me to handy websites like Bootstrap and Google Charts. I completed the work assigned to me earlier than expected and demonstrated my work at the end of the internship.
