It was a hectic afternoon organizing an Eye Health Camp for village residents as a part of the Great Lakes Karma Yoga initiative. The Karma Yoga initiative is one where around 20 villages around the Great Lakes Campus have been adopted by the students of the Institute. Aravind was leading the project. We were a mix of people from all parts of the country. The project was in a village in Tamil Nadu and it was clear that he had an advantage in terms of linguistic ability (he is a Tamilian). After about 2 hours of extensive campaigning and promotion of the soon-to-be conducted eye camp, all of us were exhausted. But Aravind also noticed one subtle fact-many of the non-natives among us had begun to feel left out, and had begun to lose interest in the project itself. He met a couple of us separately later and verified if that was true. From the next session of Karma Yoga, he took a back seat. He made sure every one of us had an equal chance to participate, and chipped in when help was required in terms of local know-how. I think this alone speaks volumes about his way of working. It takes insight for a person to recognize a clear defect in his method of operation. His habit of requesting and welcoming feedback speaks aloud for his proactivity and a genuine interest in improving himself along with his team. This constant quest for ensuring everyone grows, along with him, will take him far in his career."
