As Project Manager for the 501 (c)(3) non-profit Institute for Research and Learning in Archaeology and Bioarchaeology (IRLAB) I work directly with the Executive Board to develop and operate field experiences in bioarchaeology for undergraduate and graduate students as well as individuals in the CRM profession. This includes but is not limited to: preliminary archival research; coordination with various governmental agencies in accordance with local, state, and national regulations; introduction of an archaeological investigation and program management strategy; and execution of a multi-week bioarchaeological field experience with students from across the United States and an international research team.
Assistant Archaeologist
As Assistant Archaeologist I helped to prepare archaeological survey reports for submission to the New York State Historic Preservation Office (NYSHPO) through their online Cultural Resource Information System (CRIS). This included site file, deed, and historic map research. As well as compiling soil survey data and communicating archaeological survey procedures and findings. Often, I corresponded with clients to address questions and ensure accuracy of area of potential effect (APE), scope of work, and primary/secondary agencies involved in each project.I also held the responsibilities of a crew chief and field technician under varying circumstances. I set up transects, excavated, and documented shovel test pits (STPs) and units for all phases of archaeological survey. I also prepared artifacts in lab with proper cleaning and labeling of provenience information, and entered this information into a digital database. I also became proficient in collecting GPS point data and digital mapping using ArcGIS and QGIS.
