High school student developing pedagogical models to revolutionize education. Interested in the intersection of business, design, and education.I've been that student - full of potential, yet left disengaged by our education system. It simply didn't make sense. How teachers, who had went to college for education - simply handed out worksheets to complete. How teachers, who are quite literally shaping the next generation - are severely underpaid and overworked. How state standards strictly enforced focus on subjects like ELA and math - yet not financial literacy or public speaking, arguably, skills used more often. How students whose minds are brimming with creativity - aren't being engaged by modern teaching approaches like long lectures.How is it that our education system - a system over 90% of our world has undergone - remains the same? Persistent, yet ineffective.I realized I had a part to play when I took my first business class in high school. Core principles of business - constantly adapting to meet customer needs, and thinking beyond modern "solutions" - were all ideologies I realized our education system required.SparkAE - an organization I've founded - is a culmination of my learnings through the years, applied to improve the educational landscape for K-12 students and teachers. We have TWO key differences from the modern education system. First, content: we focus on teaching the critical skills students overlook, such as financial literacy or public speaking, ensuring students are prepared for the current world. Many of these teachings come from my own experience in clubs in DECA/FBLA, which have exposed me to various career paths and real-world skills. Second, approach: No long lectures or generic worksheets. We promise our students only ONE vocab slide- everything else, they pick up through our activities. We embody a entirely workshop and activity-based learning style - which our research has revealed data-driven improvement in education. Our ideas are not only important, but we want those ideas to STICK, hence focus on approach. Today, we're working on developing our PBL curriculum, which will be available for teachers worldwide later this year. Through internships and post-secondary education, I only hope to gain more knowledge I can bring to my students here at SparkAE. Every experience I've had has been critical - improving my skills, revealing a new frontier for change - in inspiring me to innovate. Looking ahead, I'm excited to continue expanding the reach and impact of SparkAE as I pursue my own education and career.
