I joined one of the largest healthcare companies of the world, as EHS lead, for the supply chain of its established pharmaceutical division for India region and reporting directly to the Senior Director of established pharma operations in India and dotted line to the divisional EHS Director based at Basel, Switzerland. As regional EHS lead, I am responsible to - • Make sure that sites are fully compliant with local EHS regulations and corporate EHS standards. • Guide sites for corporate EHS audits and loss prevention insurance inspections and help to close out findings/observations. • Monitor, assess and plan for the potential impact of EHS regulatory trends.• Ensure Abbott’s ESG reporting globally from India region and BRSR reporting in India as per SEBI directives. • Communicate the division’s strategic EHS objectives and secure with senior management an agreement on these objectives and the resources necessary to meet the objectives and goals. • Monitor EHS data to monitor and report on performance and contribution towards Abbott’s publicly stated EHS targets. Regularly conduct EHS reviews and provide appropriate technical guidance and training for personnel. • Provide EHS expertise and suggestions in the financial planning meetings. • Train EHS professionals on developing regulatory and advancing EHS technologies and mentor them for professional development. • Drive Supply chain EHS initiatives by strategically working to improve EHS controls and awareness thereby ensure business continuity at 26 warehouses, more than 85 external manufacturing partners and critical suppliers.Significant highlights are reduction in LTIs across India region, implementation of ‘core’ AWS practice, upgradation of ETPs at manufacturing sites, implementation of Highly Protected Status (HPS) standards, inclusion of IH containment during NPI (New Product Introduction), robust EHS audit programs for RM suppliers and third-party manufacturers.

I joined as ‘Head of site HSE’ on this manufacturing facility of World’s leading specialty chemical company. Total FIVE individual business units are operating from this site and it is categorized as Major Accident Hazard (MAH) site as per the provisions of the respective Indian statute. I was reporting to “Executive Director” and leading a team of @70 members including Eight direct reports.My key responsibilities were ensuring adherence of all BUs and Group Functions to corporate directives and standards, ensuring adherence to ‘Responsible Care’ codes and ‘Nicer Globe’ initiatives of Indian Chemical Council, ensuring compliance to applicable Statutory Acts and Rules, Process and Plant safety management, PPE management, PTW, Management of Change (facility, technology and personnel), Incident management, Transport safety, Contractors safety, Risk Assessment, Environmental monitoring, Fire prevention & Emergency preparedness, Near hit reporting, Audits & inspections, training management, ensuring efficient O&M of ETP [2,700 cum/day], RO Plant [1,200 cum/day] and STP [100 cum/day], waste management, external coordination with Government agencies, industry associations and common waste handling facilities, ensuring effective HSE budget management, MIS, implementation of HSE goals, working as Management Representative for ISO 14001 for group function “Site Infrastructure Services” and providing guidance and management support to HSE coordinators of individual business units. Significant achievements are full implementation of Lanxess global HSE Management System, sustainable implementation of BBS concept THINK, standardization of HSE training process, PPE, ladders & mobile work platforms across all business units, upgradation of ETP laboratory, upgradation of ETP neutralization system, detailed studies on bacterial culture and inherent biodegradability of effluent, upgradation of ETP sludge dewatering system and introduction of software for OHC services.

I stepped into MNC by joining World’s largest generic drug manufacturing company, on its greenfield site as ‘Manager’ and during my 5.5 years tenure, I was promoted as ‘chief manager’, ‘associate director’ and finally as ‘APAC EHS cluster lead’ (Japan, Indonesia, Thailand and India) with dual reporting to both global EHS and site. As site EHS lead, I was responsible for construction safety, EHSS by design, contractor safety management, global EHSMS implementation, implementation of EHSIMS at Asia Pacific sites of Teva as Key Trainer, performing corporate EHS audits of other Teva sites as member of global EHS audit team, legal compliance, PTW, incident management, coordinating for FPS and ZLD design/installation/commissioning/operation, ETP laboratory, hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, MIS, EHS documentation, training management, EHS audits & inspections, EHS mass awareness programs, SMART EHS goals and EHS budgetary activities.As EHS cluster lead, I was responsible to ensure full and effective implementation of Global EHS policy & procedures and promote compliance, Support global initiatives, EHS events & CAPA management, EHS audits and lead incident-prevention activity, Support sites emergency plans, Act as the EHS business partner and represent EHS in the Cluster management structure, Provide solutions and answer professional questions, Increase the professionalism of the EHS site managers & other managers, Oversee and collaborate with Cluster and Site governance teams, Act as a single point of contact for the site EHS leaders within the cluster, Review and control EHS budget for the APAC cluster. Significant highlights are completion of greenfield project of 84.6 M US $ without LTI, full implementation of global standard for “EHSS by Design” in the greenfield project, successful transition from construction to commercial phase with full techno-legal compliance, implementation of EHSMS and EHSIMS as per Teva global standards across APAC region.

This was a huge site, having more than 25 regulatory approvals including USFDA and MHRA with production facilities of API, Formulation and Injectable. As ‘Manager’ my key responsibilities were contractor safety management, risk assessment, inter-site EHS coordination, legal compliance, incident management including RCA & CAPA management, PTW, O&M of fire protection and detection system, ensuring efficient first aid and medical facility, O&M of ETP (800 cum/day), UF, RO, MEE, ETP laboratory, hazardous waste management, leading ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 related activities, EHS audits & inspections, training management, MIS, EHS mass awareness campaigns, documentation, SMART HSE goals and HSE budgetary activities. I was reporting to GM (HSE) and leading a team of @ 100 members including four direct reports.Significant achievements are BSC Five Star [twice] and Sword of Honour, transformation of HSEMS, ZLD capacity enhancement, implementation of new robust “permit to work” system and introduction of HSE audits of loan license manufacturing sites.

Doors of corporate world were opened by joining this organization as a ‘Deputy Manager’ where I was supporting THREE sites including Textiles, Gas booster station and newly launched retail business.Key deliverables were contractor safety management, HSE legal compliance, upgradation of PTW system and emergency management, hazardous waste management, O&M of ETP (16000 cum/day) including laboratory, leading ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 as Associate Management Representative, implementation of SMART S&E goals, audits & inspections, training management, mass awareness campaigns, CSR activities, incident management including RCA and CAPA management and MIS. I was reporting to VP (S&E, CPP) and leading a team of 20 members including three direct reports.Significant highlights were huge reduction in lost time incidents by training and counselling, implementation of Green Card rating system and successful energy & chemical conservation program at ETP.

I entered into the industrial world by joining this organization as an Environmental Engineer. My key deliverables were installation, commissioning and maintenance of 1200 cum/day CETP and its central laboratory, its collection/conveyance/disposal systems, CETP upgradation projects, audits and inspections, training management, regulatory compliance, ISO 14001 implementation and EHS mass awareness activities.After being promoted as a Senior Environmental Engineer, more responsibilities were added e.g. Budgetary activities including both CAPEX and OPEX, implementation of ‘Permit to Work’ system, hazardous waste management of entire chemical industrial zone and coordination with external agencies including the PCB, industry associations and NGOs. I was reporting to the Technical Director of the company and leading a team of 35 members including seven direct reports. Some significant achievements are successful commissioning of CETP, conversion of CETP into CWWTP along with capacity enhancement and introduction of ISO 14001 in the organization.

I entered into the professional world after my academic accomplishment by joining this Indo-American joint venture consultancy firm. I was involved in ETP design / commissioning /operation and Environmental Audit and was reporting to the Technical Director of the company.
