I am dedicated to technological innovations in the construction industry that benefit the environment and empower communities. My primary focus areas include:1. Discovering new materials or innovating processes of known natural materials with reduced embodied carbon compared to the average industry practice of today.2. Technological innovation in structural solutions that drives up material and/or production efficiency.3. An open environment that lowers the bar to participation, encourages exchange of knowledge, and rewards incremental improvements.My prototype project (vectospace.com/moreismore), awarded with the 2022 Future Forward Grant by AIA Young Architects Forum and Large Firm Roundtable, explored the first two points, with support from the open-source community as mentioned by point three. As of 2024, my goal is to get to the next level of technical development with support from the professional community, and to explore opportunities for AI integration.Working as a designer at EHDD, I am privileged to contribute to a wonderful team that continues its extraordinary historic legacy and takes leadership in addressing some of the most critical issues the industry is facing today. I am dedicated to the work we do that takes concrete steps to make tangible, big and small, impacts.After completing a Biology degree at a top Chinese university, I pursued my education in Architecture, starting from crafting tools and an internet-connected laptop in a bedroom, and learned computer programming skills through courses offered by renowned institutions at an affordable price, for which I am deeply grateful. Through these efforts, I recognize my strength and interest as a "generalist" who creates value through a multidisciplinary approach. Whereas a "generalist" is usually not required to be a technical "specialist", I believe technical competence and a strong understanding of science/technology are crucial to finding "generalist" solutions.Having experienced life in various cities, I am fascinated by what cities can provide to its ordinary residents after sunset. To contribute to a culture that embraces urban experience at night, and to support local businesses as an individual, I founded the San Francisco Night Owls Coalition (www.sf-no.com) which takes on a mission to discover and share the nighttime San Francisco.
