ARC-IT provides services in the domain of operation research, logistics and supply-chain optimization. In most cases the goal is to find an optimal solution for a business problem, given a set of constraints. Successful implementation requires strong business modeling and mathematical skills. Based on projects conducted so far, expertise has been acquired on how to ‘translate’ a business problem in a mathematical problem. On top of this, a software library has been developed containing algorithms for linear, quadratic and integer kind of problems. Using this library facilitates smooth integration (.NET, Java) and avoids the high licensing costs typical for commercial products.Projects are delivered on fixed price or time and material basis, with full support for the complete software development life cycle. Most important references have been conducted in the automotive sector for one of the biggest car manufacturers :Supply-Demand optimizationGoal of the system is to find an optimal balance between production and demand in an international context. The production approach of the client is based on a build to order as well as a build to stock. After delivery of the system a much better ETA was realized for non-covered customer orders, while keeping a well-balanced (pareto) stock in the different markets, which resulted in a reduction of ‘old’ stock.Logistics cost optimizationIn a multi-plant setup, the same products may be produced in different plants. Main goal of the system was to balance high priority orders between plants combined with a minimization of the shipping cost to the different markets. Within this project we were able to realize a substantial reduction in logistic costs combined with a better spread of high priority orders.

Advisory role on behalf of Atrias for improving the architecture of the Common Market System The Common Market System (CMS) is a platform managed by Atrias, which centralizes data and coordinates the interactions between different actors involved within the energy market in Belgium. Main characteristics are complex business processes, asynchronous message exchange, high data volumes and ingestion rate combined with complex queuing mechanisms. Improvements have been formulated and implemented on different aspects of the existing architecture, from database design, queue setup to business process reengineering.In order to pinpoint defects and suggest improvements multiple proof of concepts have been implemented:• Optimized allocation logic for gas and electricity (CATAN)• Architecture of the outbound messaging system (OMA)• Logic to formalize,centralize & automate complex batch shedulingLead architect for the DIME systemGiven the rollout of smart metering in Belgium, high growth in volumes of metering data is expected in the years to come. In order to cope with this expected volume increase, a new architecture has been proposed to distributors and suppliers. Main characteristcs of the proposed solution:• Eventual consistency in order to support availability at all times (CAP theorem)• Idempotency and at least-once sending to cope with failures• Event sourcing and time-based versioning to support data history• Multi-tenancy & Segregation of data and processing to improve parallelism

In the many years, I worked for TME; I have conducted so far, about 10 business-critical projects. In these projects I designed the architecture and proposed the IT response in close collaboration with the different business departments. The most important projects include:• Production planning and supply-demand optimization. I have played a crucial role as architect in a number of projects which automate the supply chain. I have been heavily involved as architect-designer in matching the supply of the vehicles to the demand. The solution is based on OR (Operational Research) models, in which the business problem is ‘translated’ into a mathematical problem. The mathematical problem is solved using mathematical optimization techniques, such as simplex, convex quadratic optimization and integer programming. • Vehicle Pricing. Centralization of vehicle pricing system for all vehicles sold throughout Europe. The system calculates the price break-down from ex-factory price to the recommended retail sales price. The system as a high degree of complexity, due to the fact that cars are produced worldwide to a non-harmonized European market. For this system I designed and implemented the core architecture of the system.• Parts Pricing. Centralization and rationalization of the different parts-pricing systems of all distributors cross-Europe. The system handles over 2.000.000 parts of all models of Toyota. I was responsible for the business and information architecture as well for the offshore development coordination.
