I used my extensive customer service skills in the National Trust, at the shop, located within the 18th century landscape and gardens at Gibside. Gibside has both a shop and an extra 'Shepard’s Hut', both of which are under the supervision of the person within the retail area. I had extra responsibility within Gibside, including setting up, closing up and cashing up of the shop and Shepard’s Hut, delegating tasks to others, creating product displays, receiving and displaying deliveries, keeping track of weekly targets and sales, plus normal service of customers and tidying duties.

After graduating Newcastle University, I worked in the busy shopping centre, Intu Metrocentre, in the ladies fashion store Oasis. Here I used my strong customer service skills to provide excellent customer service, as well as developing a new range of skills for the world of retail. These skills include tidying and reorganising the store, with size and general store standards complete. I have also learnt how to restock the store, with full security and price measures. Fitting room duties, and how to keep a fitting room clean, tidy and in order is another element which I have proven to be within my ability. Advising customers, both on the shop floor and within the fitting room environment, both in terms of the fit of clothing and also how to accessorize clothing is another element of my job. I have also learnt new skills when using the operative till. As well as cash and card handling, I have developed how to place discount on items and how to handle store and online returns, as well as shipping online orders and home delivery orders to customers. General upkeep and tidiness of the store is also a general duty.

In a busy pub which served both buffet style carvery and a full restaurant menu, I built upon my skills that I has learnt whilst at the Derwent Manor. I was assigned to taking food and drinks orders, from customers, allowing me to improve more on my customer service.When assigned onto breakfast shift, I was entrusted with setting up the pub (turning on the music, tvs and appropriate lights), the breakfast counter as well as opening the doors in time for opening independently, showing a degree of responsibility. When working at the Jolly Drovers I also developed my skills with cash handling, sorting out customer bills, tips ect. Within a team and independently, I was assigned to serving, setting and clearing a large restaurant area, again allowing me to built upon my skills and confidence. General household cleaning jobs, such as hoovering, dusting, polishing were also a task I regularly participated in. I also maintained providing excellent customer service when working within the Jolly Drovers, dealing with complaints as well as building rapport with regulars and liaising with other customers.Within my time at the Jolly Drovers, I also developed bar experience, including drinks service, bar cleaning and changing kegs/soda syrup.

I worked in a busy country hotel, the Derwent Manor, as a waitress which had many different assignments. Within the busy hotel, I learned to work under pressure, be fast and efficient, and the ability to work independently and within a team to assure tasks were achieved. As part of a team, I helped set up both hotel restaurant and many function rooms, for weddings, parties and private dinners. I would also have to clear all plates and glasses and later help clear down the function rooms after the event had finished. Setting often included moving large tables and chairs from different rooms around the hotel, as well as gathering clean laundry and finding the appropriate eating and drinking utensils needed for tables. As a waitress I was constantly liaising with customers, allowing me to develop excellent customer service skills. I was also assigned to taking food and drinks orders from customers, allowing me to learn the skills needed to work till systems, and allowing me to gain some drinks experience, as well as maintaining a generally clean work environment.
