Software Engineer
MCE (Managed Compute Engine) is an internal-to-AWS service providing on-demand compute for build, test and deploy processes. I was part of a small team building this service from the ground up. My primary role was ownership of the AWS infrastructure that the service was built on, including the networking, security, messaging and accounts management. This infrastructure was all built out as code using CDK in typescript. Because the product lived on AWS, I developed a really intimate knowledge of the services and their capabilities.
Founder / Partner
Space Inch is a mobile gaming studio and publisher and is responsible for Make it Rain: The Love of Money, which reached #1 on iTunes charts for all apps and has yielded over 30 million downloads. The company was founded by me and three other partners and grew to over 30 employees at its peak. This meant that my duties shifted between developer/designer and tech manager. My role was the primary technical game designer and I was responsible for maintaining the extremely high attention to detail on the front end, including visual appearance, responsiveness, performance, “jiggle and pop” and the overall immersive feel of the games. I did the software architecture for the front end and worked with the back end engineer on database and API design. I also worked directly on the game concepts, features, incentive systems, in-game economies, marketing, business and hiring.
Cto
The Ocean is a crypto token exchange platform built on top of Ethereum and the 0x protocol. As the primary founder, I built the initial proof of concept and grew a company around it, eventually reaching a staff of over 20 people and raising over $2M. I lead a team of 12 developers to build best-in-class tech from the perspective of security, user experience, performance and code quality. In my role as CTO, I was responsible for guiding the vision of the technology and product as well as maintaining the high standards we applied to the tech and to the user experience. I managed the development team as well as our product manager and visual designer. I wrote deep dive posts on the details of our tech and interfaced with the industry and the blockchain ecosystem at large.
Senior Enngineer
Lilypad was a 3-4 person startup with a mission of providing peer-to-peer childcare. I joined when the company was about 4 months old and stayed until it shut down a year later due to lack of funding. The product was an experiment and a constant work in progress that provided a feedback loop from the users and their impressions back to the product on a weekly basis.I was responsible for all things technical including dev-ops, cloud infrastructure, back end, front end (mobile and desktop), API, database admin, analytics and performance considerations. I needed to assess technical tasks and delegate to two other members of the organization, one founder and one junior engineer, based on the nature of the work. I built out a suite of tools to streamline our super-fast deployment cycle including a Node.js utility to port Webflow designs directly into Vue.js components including clean CSS. I worked very closely with the Head of Product and the visual designer to iterate on a UX that felt seamless and intuitive despite being constantly in flux. I drew on my experience as a game designer/developer to build retention and engagement.
