• Manage litigation-related matters across the company (three offices and 15 states) and report directly to the General Counsel regarding the same• Develop comprehensive litigation philosophy and resolution strategy for more cost-effective litigation, resulting in a 25% reduction in litigation costs year over year• Directly oversee bad faith litigation against the company, including hiring and managing outside counsel, crafting litigation strategy, and negotiating resolution• Provide legal advice and claims-handling guidance to all levels of claims professionals—from trainees to VP of Claims—resulting in a drastic reduction of exposure to, and liability from, bad faith claims nationwide• Draft, revise, and deliver training regarding legal and regulatory issues related to claims handling, as well as various claims-handling best practices• Review policies, procedures, and communications for compliance with state regulations• Work with claims professionals and outside counsel to develop the facts needed for litigation, including interrogatory responses and depositions• Conduct legal research, analyze insurance policies, and provide counseling on policy and coverage interpretation for claims nationwide

• Represent clients in disputes regarding insurance coverage, bad faith, personal injury, ERISA, construction, and premises liability through all stages of the litigation process, from inception through appeal• Conduct insurance-coverage analysis, draft coverage opinions, and counsel clients regarding various types of insurance policies, including homeowners, automobile, disability, employment practices liability, professional liability, and commercial general liability policies• Manage team of junior associates and paralegals in connection with various litigation and research projects• Defend insurers against first-party and third-party bad faith/extra-contractual claims• Advise claims professionals regarding litigation strategy, claim evaluation, and best practices to avoid potential bad faith claims• Draft complaints, motions, and briefs in federal and state trial and appellate courts• Represent clients in depositions, hearings, oral arguments, and mediation• Negotiate and draft settlement agreements between and among insurers, insureds, and third parties

• Lead team investigating and analyzing potential civil-fraud claims stemming from the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill• Perform research and draft memoranda regarding legal issues arising under the False Claims Act and the Oil Pollution Act• Conduct privilege, relevance, and confidentiality reviews of documents produced in federal investigations

• Represent corporate policyholders in securing insurance coverage under various types of policies, including commercial general liability, directors and officers, and professional liability• Negotiate and draft insurance-related agreements between and among Fortune 500 companies• Draft pleadings, pretrial motions, appellate briefs, and discovery responses for litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country, including the United States Supreme Court

• Prepare and teach 80-hour LSAT preparation course to groups of up to 100 students• Position required LSAT score in the 99th percentile
