I am a Black queer feminist and smiley sad mom-girl. I am a play-driven community-organizer and educator who is motivated to raise a joyous, free Black child. I have been described by the people I love as southern, explosive, abstract, intricate, and awkward. In April 2021, I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Ph.D. in Critical Cultural Studies. My research centers Black children and families, housing insecurity and poverty, and cultural play practices. I have conducted years of ethnographic research in Atlanta, Georgia with students and families at three of Atlanta’s most under-resourced schools and communities. My practice of play-based learning and cultural exchange makes me a strong people professional. As a play-driven community organizer and educator, I use an anti-racist lens to analyze institutions, understand people, navigate conflict, and develop strategy. I understand my commitment to equity and diversity as both a process and outcome, and therefore, this commitment must be integrated into every aspect of my work and living. With a proven track record of clear communication and work efficacy, my focus is on using data-driven insights to improve cross-functional team productivity and internal programming through relationship building. I have a talent for tailoring stakeholder engagement and ensuring projects are delivered within a specified scope. This talent has been honed through my eclectic consulting experiences which span community-based learning spaces, elementary and university-level classrooms and administrative boardrooms, as well as nationally recognized nonprofits. Alongside my graduate coursework, I instructed college composition courses and was a teaching-assistant for the Children & Culture course which offers students knowledge about philosophical approaches to childhood, their social and cultural implications, and the cultural and political histories that engendered contemporary forms of childhood.I am the CEO and President of the 501c3 nonprofit ATL Parent Like A Boss, Inc. (Parent LAB) whose mission is to enhance generational literacies through play in underserved African American communities. We are an intergenerational group of Black women with diverse experiences in community-based education. We host family-oriented community-based programming and workshops. Our workshops are grounded in a social justice framework and based on our research and knowledge of best practices regarding child development and family engagement. I received her Bachelors of Arts from Spelman College in 2016.
