I am an enthusiastic, powerful communicator and thought leader, and a natural leader who excels at building teams and collaborations by inspiring people of diverse backgrounds to work together on complex challenges to achieve large-scale goals. I am an expert in interdisciplinary ecology and science policy with over eighteen years of combined experience in natural resources science and science policy in academic, federal government and non-profit sectors. Continually curious and a life-long learner, I enjoy tackling new topics and challenges particularly by leading multidisciplinary efforts where I get to learn new ideas from my peers. I call myself a “social science-friendly ecologist” because I love to work across disciplines and I believe that multidisciplinary teams are the best way to find societally-relevant solutions to complex challenges that we face in today’s society.A natural leader, I thrive on growing initiatives from an idea to implementation by building teams and motivating progress. But I also am a good team player and am sensitive to group dynamics and ensure that teams with diverse participants capitalize on everyone’s strengths as much as possible. I also greatly enjoy mentoring others and sharing my career journey with those trying to determine if their own passions align with a science policy career. Helping others improve their science communication skills and find their passion are two of my favorite ways to mentor others. I am a dynamic, energetic public speaker, who connects with diverse audiences. Skilled at gaining leadership support for new ideas, and fostering partnerships with other organizations to achieve results, I have helped procure funding and co-lead a collaborative team that successfully changed the U.S. national greenhouse gas inventory to include a new ecosystem (coastal wetlands) for the first time in 2017. In another life I might have been a “triple threat,” and singing and dancing are still some of my favorite hobbies along with baking and hiking. But my professional passion is to seek, discover and then implement innovative ideas that combine science and policy to solve environmental problems, including climate change, and promote habitat conservation.
