My name is Ariel Zagala and I’m a college graduate who is seeking to make a difference by educating the community and informing policy makers by advocating on behalf of the agricultural industry. My main skill sets are problem solving, improving processes and data research. Recently, I established a data system of COVID-19 patient hospitalizations report by categorizing by hospital for Fort Bend County Health and Human Services. This report helped improve weekly report accuracy when publicized. In addition, as an intern at the USDA in Washington DC, I translated food safety data into a user-friendly format that helped consumers understand the need for Country-of-Origin labeling requirements. One of the main issues in agriculture is the misperception that farmers and/ or ranchers abuse or harvest animals inhumanely. My bachelor’s degree of science in agriculture, exposure to proper and ethical protocols, and experience in managing livestock has prepared me to inform the agricultural community on best practices and be an advocate in the industry. I’m looking to expand my expertise by joining a progressive organization whose mission is to advocate and educate the agricultural sector and the communities that they serve. I want to be involved in the day-to-day problem solving and process improvement strategies to help both consumers and producers in the industry. I have a passion for working in an industry that is essential for human life. My problem solving and process improvement skillset could help shape the look of the agricultural environment and maintain it for future generations.
