Stories were played daily on hundreds of radio stations throughout the country.

Reported on city government of Scottsdale, population 250,000, major businesses and environmental initiatives for nearly three years.• Investigated a private water utility’s lax standards that caused repeated drinking water contamination emergencies affecting thousands of people. The coverage led to Congressional subcommittee hearings on Capitol Hill, and Scottsdale’s proposed $100 million condemnation of the private utility.• Published a fiscal analysis of land acquisitions in the multi-billion dollar McDowell Sonoran Preserve that weighed heavily on mayoral and City Council elections, and prompted officials to reexamine some huge payouts to developers.• Broke the news about Motorola’s proposal to save money by removing air pollution filters, thereby releasing a harmful airborne chemical next to a residential neighborhood. The company dropped the idea after the public outcry.

Covered local politics, government and business in Chico, population 110,000, in northern California.• Investigated an extreme case of unsanitary conditions at a local restaurant, revealing lax county health inspection policies and limited public access to inspection reports. The coverage led the health department to hire more inspectors to check restaurants more frequently, and to the creation of a new online public archive of restaurant inspections.

Wrote news briefs and provided research to analysts relating to political and economic conditions in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and the former Soviet republics for an influential online publication catering to businesses interested in international investment.
