After my stint in ING Bank Singapore, various consulting opportunities came. My experience in providing strategic and business advisory services were sought by corporations and entrepreneurs. For the engagements completed, I have conducted market research, developed business cases and business plans, and advised in the formulation of marketing strategies and human resources policies and procedures. I also had the opportunity to facilitate focus group discussion in South Korea among a group of business executives for a post-graduate educational institution.Currently, I am working with one of the top asset management firms in the Philippines for its business development and geographic business expansion. I manage all the operational aspects of the business including financial, tax and regulatory reporting, marketing and relationship management among others.

Singapore

I joined the regional Corporate Finance (CF) and Corporate Clients team in Singapore where I was involved in strategic projects and initiatives, business management and strategy planning for Corporate Clients in Asia. I likewise performed timely review/renewal of Know Your Customer (KYC)/Customer Due Diligence (CDD) requirements for Corporate Clients and CF. Also included in my tasks is the preparation and analysis of monthly performance reports for regional and global senior management.While working in Corporate Finance, I conducted extensive company and industry research, built financial models and performed financial analyses, client pitches, customer due diligence, and assisted the deal principals in execution of M&A transactions.

Singapore

I was sent to ING Bank Singapore for a short term assignment to work with the country manager of Vietnam and various regional teams for the preparation of business case of a proposed expansion project. I also helped the Finance team in preparing and analysing daily liquidity and management information reports whilst on the assignment.

After the divestment of the ING Insurance and Investment Management business, I joined ING Bank Manila where I was in-charge of financial accounting and management reporting, budgeting, analysis and monitoring of business performance including medium-term plans for the local, regional and head office management.In 2014 ING started its shared services organization (ING Global Services and Operations, Inc.) in Manila and I acted as deputy CFO where I evaluated business models and led the set-up of finance and treasury functions, ensured integrity of financial and MIS reports and guarantee compliance with various regulatory requirements - BIR, PEZA, SEC, BOI. I built financial models including scenario planning and income modelling to determine appropriate pricing policies of GSO. While in this position, I worked closely with global and regional senior management from various departments in Europe and Asia for the implementation of Commercial Banking Target Operating Model (CB TOM)

Hong Kong

Upon completion of the management programme, I was offered a permanent role in the ING Asia/Pacific regional office in Hong Kong to join the controllers team. Under this capacity, I reviewed financial accounts and provided insightful commentaries about the financial performance of the assigned business units. I also facilitated medium term planning and financial budgeting process and prepared periodic reports for regional office expense management. I conducted impairment review of investments in debt and equity securities of the Asia Pacific business units as well. The regional role helped in developing my cultural agility since I have to work with people from different backgrounds and nationalities. I represented the team in various committees that organise activities promoting team work most notably as team captain for three years of ING dragon boat team.

Rotations In Philippines, Australia And Hong Kong

After earning my MBA degree, I joined ING Asia/Pacific Limited's Young Talent Programme. It was a great program where I had the opportunity to work on a spectrum of assignments in Investment Management across different locations (Philippines, Australia and Hong Kong) My responsibilities include conducting fundamental research to portfolio candidates, credit analysis for fixed income portfolio, trade execution, development of equity analysis toolkit, and review and proposal of a new Strategic Asset Allocation which I presented to both local and regional Investments team.

Working with Chevron provided a great opportunity to learn new financial systems - SAP which I used in analyzing and processing accounts payables, credit memos and financial adjustments of Chevron North America suppliers. I was also involved in screening and interviewing candidates for accounting and finance positions and was nominated to represent the North America Accounts Payables team in the Rest and Recreation Committee which is in-charge of planning and executing activities and programs that promotes work-life balance in the company.

This is my first full-time job after five years of hard work in university and successfully passing the CPA board examinations in the Philippines! Putting into practice what I learned in class - I prepared financial statements, regulatory and statutory reports for various clients and dealt with regulators for the audit of my client. Together with my supervisor, I was also engaged in special projects for the review of the internal control of an international publishing company and inventory audit of a multi-national manufacturing company.
