After my dad died when I was 17, I dropped my dream of having a career in fashion and instead went to law school with a mission of fixing our healthcare system. My professional career, and much of my personal time, has been dedicated to addressing issues in the healthcare and life sciences spaces that impact patients’ access to quality care and to working with individuals and businesses that aim to improve patient’s lives. I love my work as an attorney, but I've learned the hard way that my natural workaholic and "push through" inclinations aren't sustainable, and that wellbeing is tied to success. I’m determined to shift the legal industry to make room for those of us who know that sleep, movement, healthy food, nature, and time with loved ones is critical for our bottom line. That’s why I founded The Wellness Esquire. (Check out TheWellnessEsquire.com and @TheWellnessEsquire on IG).My pathway to “wellness” originated from a concussion, which was exacerbated by a host of underlying complex chronic conditions. It took me a month to accept that this was the first thing in my life I couldn't push through, and the experience led (forced) me to pause, shift my priorities, and find myself. This finding of myself and shifting of priorities is what led me to have a presence on social media. I share information with people all around the world about my experience as a “rare disease” patient, and I share the tools, resources, and knowledge that have allowed me to achieve success in spite of being born into a challenging body. I’ll never forget the nine-year-old girl who said my videos encouraged her to get stronger and that she felt not alone for the first time, or the mom and wife who shared that her husband had re-entered their family life after the videos I shared reduced his pain and improved his function. (Check out EDSetc.com and @AriellaCohenColeman on IG and TikTok). As a Jew whose MIL was born in a refugee camp after everyone except her immediate family was murdered in the Holocaust, I cannot be silent. Much of the above is on pause as I coordinate efforts to support Israel and fight antisemitism. Read more about my WHY and find my hub of Israel and antisemitism resources on my website: AriellaCohenColeman.com.
