Data scientist within Human Resources at Cisco, active in workforce analytics and diverse talent. I also work to enable fair artificial intelligence and machine learning practices at Cisco.

In 2006, I created the Visual Networking Index (VNI), a forecast of Internet connections and traffic. Over the next 11 years, I worked to transform my initial forecast into one of the industry’s best-known thought leadership platforms. VNI has appeared on the front page of the New York Times, and CNN has called the forecast “the gold standard for Internet analysis”. VNI generates more media coverage for Cisco than any other effort, second only to earnings releases. 70% of the global top 30 telcos use the VNI forecast for their own planning, as do numerous government organizations.As the primary architect, I expanded VNI from 1 to 24 countries, from 1 to 3 forecast domains, from 1 to 5 dimensions. My responsibilities evolved to include not only analytics but also communication, visualization, team leadership, and data science. Here are some of my key responsibilities and accomplishments:ANALYSIS - Added two new forecast domains and 24 new geographies, reconciled 30+ secondary data sources each year, created new primary data sources, incorporated mathematical modeling to accommodate high granularity, maintained an accuracy of ±10%.COMMUNICATION - Delivered briefings to media/analysts as key spokesperson (25/yr), engaged with CxO-level individuals outside company (10/yr), presented to external audiences of 300 or more (8/yr).CONTENT CREATION - Authored 6 whitepapers, 12 blogs, 20+ slide decks each year, designed an award-winning custom data highlights tool. TEAM LEADERSHIP - Mentored and elevated visibility of new analysts, led ideation of new themes to be added.PROGRAM MANAGEMENT - Managed service provider data collection efforts, managed vendor timelines for app development, allocated $1M budget.DATA SCIENCE - Established forecast baseline via multivariate regression, grouped consumers via clustering, predicted top bandwidth users via classification.

I quantified opportunities for new telecom services, supported over 20 in-depth engagements with service providers each year from 2004 through 2006. In 2005 I designed a study of Korea’s cable market and presented conclusions to 50 cable executives at Cisco’s APAC Cable Summit. I was also responsible for defining the service provider marketing group’s market intelligence requirements, and allocating a budget ranging from $700K to $1.5M in order to address these requirements.

I created and maintained market research overviews highlighting managed service revenue opportunities for service providers, and traveled to customer sites to present market overviews and conduct market assessments as part of Cisco’s service creation services.

I made recommendations for the promotion, distribution, and pricing of this internet start-up’s flagship product. I also developed and managed the company’s intranet.

I mobilized an effort to network the Center’s geographically dispersed member organizations and launched a public website. I managed a small team of student programmers.

I designed and implemented two of the company’s first internal websites, and created an experimental virtual office using text-based virtual reality.
