Working with the Senior Leadership Team and reporting to the Director of Elder Care and Palliative Services, I was responsible for the site and operations of a 216 bed residential care facility. Managed an operating budget of $10 million, effectively handled over 70 complex staff and family conflict situations while ensuring a staff retention rate of 90%; successfully led five facility inspections and increased the staff flu immunization rate by 27%.Achievements: • Reestablished a culture of safety and trust where the contributions of all were valued.• Led critical components of the Accreditation metrics for Residential Care: Providence Health Care awarded the highest accreditation standing from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) 2013.• Exceeded operational and fiscal expectations during the closure of a 24 bed unit. Residents relocated within the facility two weeks ahead of targeted completion date.• Developed a valued based 'Guiding Framework' that served to ground team decisions taken and allowed for a seamless closure of the 24 bed unit.

Working with the Leadership Team, led a 100 bed residential care facility and 72 bed assisted living site with an annual operating budget of $5 million. Created a supportive and healthy work culture based on safety and trust where personal responsibility and accountability were valued. Achievements: • Increased organizational capacity to respond to challenges and future needs.• Led investigations around care delivery and resident/employee safety: produced actionable reports that guided employee education, improved systems and policy, allowing the organization to effectively manage risk. • Led four successful facility inspections and increased medication error reporting from 0 to ~90/year by moving away from blame and fault, to a culture of reporting and safety.

As an Instructor in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program, I led over 300 students to achieve a higher level of professional practice.Education modules developed included Medication Management in Assisted Living and Co-facilitated the LPN Leadership training module: 'Taking the Lead'.

Led the operations of the 173 bed Resident Care Department:Achievements: • Implemented systems in the areas of medication management, patient database and inventory control.• Produced cost savings of about 10% to an annual operating budget of 1.5 million dollars through effective HR and staff retention strategies. • Coordinated the opening of a 22-bed special care unit for patients with Alzheimer’s Disease within established timelines. • Developed a comprehensive Influenza prevention strategy and policy; doubled the number of staff receiving vaccinations due to a strategic roll out and marketing strategy. Assisted both organizations to achieve a dual 3 year Accreditation standing from the (CCHSA).

Responsible for the day-day clinical operations of this 150 bed facility. Achievements: • Consultant/Educator to staff on acute clinical situations, employee safety, infection control orientation and training of new RN’s.• Facilitated interdisciplinary team education around evidence based practice, crisis management debriefing and OHS.• Successful management and containment of two Influenza outbreaks January/December 1999.
