This firm invited me to join based on my technology transactions and data privacy experience. I was challenged to build out a tech transactions/data privacy practice within the IP and Technology group. I also negotiated wide range of supplier and customer-side (i.e. inbound) technology and vendor agreements. I served as a Data Privacy SME for the entire firm; led IP due diligence for M&A, private placements, and funding rounds; and managed IP litigation. I maintained the highest monthly billing average for the IP and Technology Practice Group until I left for the exceptional opportunity at Genesis.Highlights:• Built a robust Data Privacy practice area from scratch and trained other attorneys on data privacy matters. • Retained $500K+ in business by servicing clients ready to leave firm due to prior lack of privacy expertise.• Negotiated a favorable $8MM software deal on behalf of small, extremely deleveraged Biotech with a much larger, hostile J&J by taking an aggressive stance to preserve the client’s IP.• Rescued a high-profile merger between two regional healthcare technology companies by restructuring license grants that had been incorrectly transferred.

JPMorgan Chase recruited me out of law school into a pilot Compliance Summer Associate program, where I was promoted twice to a VP/AGC role and designated Marketing/IP, Regulatory, and Data Privacy lawyer for the commercial banking (CB) business. Concurrently, I undertook an internal secondment to lead negotiations for global technology and supplier agreements.Highlights:• Negotiated a highly favorable $20MM deal with Finastra and $15MM deal with FIS for software on behalf of extremely deleveraged JPMorgan, where prior attorneys were unable to deliver results. I did this by quickly learning the technology and creating leverage where there was none to secure important EU law, privacy, and support terms to protect the business.• Lead regulatory attorney for CB’s Legal and Regulatory Change Management Program, managing implementation efforts for proposed and enacted legislation in 28 countries.• Served as privacy law SME, advising stakeholders on privacy policies and procedures involving CCPA, GLBA, GDPR, LGPD and equivalent laws/legal obligations globally.• Collaborated with Technology to develop AI/machine learning tools that were ultimately able to predict, with 95% accuracy, the applicability of voluminous emergency bills (generated during Covid) to commercial banking. This saved 800+ hours of regulatory work time and enabled proactive management of ~45 bills/ day in 28 countries.• Developed expertise in CAN-SPAM/GDPR and created a procedure for the wholesale business that met relevant regulatory requirements, resolving a 10-year long unresolved issue. Became a top CAN-SPAM expert at the bank.
