Advised by Dr. Alan B. McMillanAt the Molecular Imaging/Magnetic Resonance Technology Lab, I have been performing research on cross-modal machine learning models, focusing on improving multi-modal LLM training. By running algorithms across multiple 80GB A100 GPUs at the Center for High Throughput Computing, I was able to reduce memory overhead by 41.6%, optimizing multi-GPU training.One of my key projects led to a 58.2% improvement in retrieval accuracy compared to the Okapi BM25 algorithm, showcasing the effectiveness of my approach in enhancing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). For this project, I developed a three-layer Projection Model to align pseudocode with C code embeddings, a novel approach that has resulted in a filed patent. As part of this work, I designed a custom triplet loss function, focusing on hard negatives to improve the discriminative power of the model. I am also in the process of writing a research paper detailing these innovations.
