About Armando Rijo, M. Ed
Growing up, my parents joked that I was the one “closing the school” because I was always the last to get home. Three degrees and many more late nights later, I have learned that it was because I really valued the intersection of education and lived experiences. With over 5+ years in Fraternity and Sorority experience, I've learned to curate a community of innovation and support with students that encourage them to leverage their identities and networks in pursuing their passions. From mentoring more than 10 chapter leaders across the state to developing education materials on how to properly and skillfully leverage one's Fraternity experience to land a professional career; I have a wide range of expertise to utilize. Some skills include crisis control, conversation de-escalation, Inclusive program management, budget monitoring, team building, innovative marketing, and much more!I am passionate about working in areas that build a sense of belonging for students including multicultural and diversity spaces, student organizations and engagement, and anything celebrating and uplifting Student Success. Aiding in the development of a student conference catered to the advancement of over 200+ black/brown students in the Tampa Bay area helped me realize that it was a calling of mine to help systemically marginalized students reach their full potential, no matter the barriers placed against them.I am eager to spend some more time diving into the world of Curriculum Design and Assessment within education, as well as College/Career Planning and Counseling. Some current research areas of interest include Fraternity & Sorority Life, Latiné Student Collegiate Invovlement, students who went through a Dual-Enrollment High School experience, and many others. I would love to connect if you are working on a project that may intersect with any of these and more! When I am not educating and mentoring I love spending time with family, exploring local small businesses in my area, and planning my next travel destination.
Listed skills include Customer Service, Social Media, Critical Thinking, Microsoft Office, and 13 others.
